Black-capped Chickadee
I found this nest this morning under a blue spruce tree that chickadees frequented all summer...a chickadee nest, perhaps? It is made mostly of dried grasses, some small twigs, lint, and some mystery bits. It is ~10 cm in diameter and contains small whitish shell fragments. I think the wind blew it out last night.

The Capilano Ravens, as I've dubbed them. This morning the pair perched on the arch over the Capilano Safeway and provided resonant, croaking commentary on all who passed before swooping across the street to Dairy Queen to scavenge.
One very wet-looking robin flying through the rain this morning, south of the U of A hospital. I haven't seen a robin since late July, so that was a pleasant surprise. I wonder where all his/her compatriots are...south already?
