Details UNCOMMON
Notes -perched about 3/4 up in a dead tree on the corner of a major intersection! Had time, while stopped, at a Red Light to grab my trusty car binocs and determine that is was either a Cooper or a Sharpie; I noticed it because a crow was repeatedly diving at the tree; as I pulled up to the stop sign, another crow joined the air attack!
Weather 14c; sunny

HA! Are you sure it was a Cooper's? That's fantastic that you have a pair of car binocs! I just bring mine, along with my camera, everywhere I go!

- Tawny- your right! When I spot an accipiter, after blogging on Geobirds about what makes a Sharpie or a Coopers, all of the characteristics come to me at once! We've all learned that with some species, you need more than one piece to complete the puzzle and even then, you still might not have the answer. :-)

That's what I've learned with those two species. I had a bird in my backyard that I know was a Cooper's, because he was perched right next to a Blue Jay, and the Cooper's was twice it's size! I was happy to get that bird IDed. When I'm birding, I love, and hate spotting Cooper's/ Sharpies, because I'm never 100% sure what it is!
