Here's an interesting one! I've counted about 5-6 crows that are living in our neighborhood here.....I'm not sure where they are nesting though. However this crow that I saw this morning actually landed on my bird feeder, and grabbed a chunk of suet from the suet feeder that is attached to the side of my bird feeder!!!! He was almost as big as my bird feeder!!! I've been having fun watching them, as I've never seen them in our area that much. I did spot one crow feeding another.....is it too early for them to be nesting?
-researched in various of my bird books and came up with some info; (1)apparently, "helpers at the nest", who are last years off-spring, help out defending and feeding in the new nesting territory; (2)perhaps a big baby from last years family; (3) males also feed females during incubation;(4)perhaps one of many courtship routines.
Thanks so much for the info! I was watching them, and the crow that was being fed was quite large....he looked as big as a full grown crow. I couldn't tell for sure though. Maybe it was a male feeding a female. I've seen other species of birds doing that, but I wasn't sure if crows do that also....
