Beautiful, clear photo. I hope the little guy will be OK. We have a screened-in deck and birds regularly fly into the screens and bounce off as though on a vertical trampoline. They don't get hurt, fortunately, as the screens are more forgiving than the windows - or the stair-rail as was the case with the young robin our guest rescued in July!
Well done, Jim! I think the little guy will be ok. If anything, he just got stunned. Those birds have to really hit it at a weird angle to do any serious damage to it. I had a really interesting call at the sanctuary, a person called in and said "a hawk just flew into my house! I don't know how it got in, the door was shut!" and I said "did you check the window?" and she said "no because I always leave if open in the daytime". I waited a second then said "well...if I had to guess, he got in through the window." and she said "really? you think so?" I couldn't believe she said that HA! so I responded as politely as possible, saying "yes ma'am I do". And then I just told her the usual way of getting it out. Pick up a towel, up it over the bird, hover over it, grab its feet, pick it up, then let him go outside. HA!!
Yep! I had the person describe the bird as best as he could, and it sounded like a Broad-winged to me. Could be wrong, seeing is how this person isn't experienced in the bird department, but I was fairly confident ;).
