As I mentioned in the "Notes", I don't think this is a White-crowned Pigeon, but I couldn't find it anywhere in the field guides or the Internet, so again I'm appealing to Geobirders for help in identifying it.

First thought I had when I saw it was whiskeyjack (gray jay)...... perhaps it's a clark's nutcracker, but Im' still thinking whiskeyjack...... will see what other's think. Was it real friendly? Joanne

I would go with Joanne's gut, and say Gray Jay. Note the contrast between head and grey body, as well as the black on the back of the head. Friendly little fellas, they've taken food from my camp!

Thank you, Joanne_B & newbirder. Once I had a "lead" (ie. Gray Jay), I did some more digging and discovered that "the immature birds have a much darker charcoal gray appearance until they take on the adult plumage" - Northern Michigan Birding site. This definitely describes my "mystery bird", so I will change the name from "White-crowned Pigeon" to "Gray Jay". Thank you again. I knew I could count on Geobirders for help! :o) :o)
