Are you sure that is a Redpoll? It looks like a House Finch to me.

I had been wondering the same thing. And House Finches have been drastically expanding their population in Alberta recently.

actually, to me, if you look at the head and neck pattern and the absence of breast striping, the bird on the left appears to be a House Sparrow; the bird on the right is a male House Finch.

Ahh, very true. I didn't even look at the left one, I was just looking at the right one, and figured that the left one was a House Finch aswell.
