Avalon/Stone Harbor/Sea Isle, NJ
| About | Sadly, this barrier island community continues to fill in priceless marshlands for development at an alarming rate. Every time I have spent in Avalon visiting family, I have seen more different types of birds with little effort than anywhere else I have birded! Unfortunately, there is only a tiny wildlife refuge in Avalon, and most of the birds I have seen have been on the marshes from a private residence or out in a kayak at high tide. Therefore, if you are not renting a house here, Cape May is really the place to go as there is an Audubon Center there and it is partially protected. |
